SCCA RallyCross National Challenge Makes Debut in Michigan This Weekend
TOPEKA, Kan. (June 1, 2006) – Dozens of
dormant monsters will wake this weekend in Fowlerville, Mich., unleashing guttural
cries and ripping extra folds into the Earth’s already wrinkled brow.
They will spew dirt toward the heavens and immerse themselves in billowing
clouds of thick dust. Or, should it rain, have the chance to partake of the motorsports
version of a mud bath.
All in the name of speed. Well, that and winning the first SCCA RallyCross
National Challenge event of 2006, which is set for this weekend at the Fowlerville
Fairgrounds.
The first of five RallyCross National Challenge (RXNC) events this season,
all eyes will be upon the Fairgrounds’ dirt oval track, bearing witness
to the RXNC’s highly-anticipated official debut, which comes after a single,
successful prototype event in 2005.
“We are ready to go. It’s time to get the RallyCross National Challenge
off the ground,” SCCA Vice President of Competition Programs Howard Duncan
said. “Every race weekend is exciting, but I think it goes up a notch when
it is a situation like this. Everybody, from officials, to drivers, to workers,
is anxious to get out there and watch topflight SCCA RallyCross competition.
“The event is in the very capable hands of Detroit Region, and because
of the Region’s high enthusiasm for these types of events, we expect that
it is going to be a great show.”
The RXNC field will be capped at 100 entries overall and separated into eight
classes. Each class will name a winner Sunday afternoon.
The Fowlerville RallyCross National Challenge event will begin at 10 a.m. (EDT)
on Saturday, and 9 a.m. Sunday. A trophy presentation will follow the completion
of Sunday’s runs, at 3:30 p.m.
