LEXINGTON, OHIO (September 23, 2005) - Sports Car Club of America Inc. announced Thursday the Yokohama Advan SCCA Club Racing Volunteer of the Year winners. Awarded at the SCCA National Championship Runoffs® presented by Kohler, all 13 Workers of the Year were presented a set of Yokohama tires, while William Bradley won a trip to the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans, in France, as Yokohama's guest.
Selected by their peers, the Yokohama Advan Volunteer of the Year program annually recognizes the outstanding efforts of individuals in 13 separate race worker specialties, including: Course Marshall, Emergency Services, Flagging & Communications, Grid, Paddock, Pit, Race Chair, Radio Tech, Registration, Scrutineer, Sound, Starter and Timing & Scoring.
Winning Yokohama Advan Volunteer of the Year honors in 2005 were William Bradley, Mike Marshall, Barbara Lissow, Karen Peterson, Lauren Robison, Bob Smethers, Bud Mansur, Rusty Clayton, Jeff Slavik, Bob Maples, Nancy Foster, Paula Spencer and Gini Ragan.
Bradley, of the Colorado Region, was named Yokohama Advan Course Marshal Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his service to his home track and four others. He also handles Course Marshalling duties for the Denver Grand Prix.
Marshall, of the Cal Club Region, was named Yokohama Advan Emergency Services Volunteer of the Year for showing full support of his region by working 100 percent of the races, SCCA and not, this year.
Lissow, of the Finger Lakes Region, was named Yokohama Advan Flagging and Communications Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her organization leadership and recruitment, which led to the largest number of new F&C recruits in several years.
Peterson, of the New England Region, was named Yokohama Advan Grid Volunteer of the Year for her display of demeanor and professionalism as a Grid Chief.
Robison, of the Washington, D.C. Region, was named Yokohama Advan Pit Marshall Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her overall dedication to racing and her recruiting efforts in 2005.
Smethers and Mansur, of the Oregon Region, were named Yokohama Advan Race Chair Volunteers of the Year for their leadership, recruitment and retention.
Clayton, of the Colorado Region, was named Yokohama Advan Registration Volunteer of the Year for her outstanding level of professionalism.
Slavik, of the Arizona Region, was named Yokohama Advan Starter Volunteer of the Year in recognition of his overall dedication to his region in all specialties and consummate skills in the starter’s stand.
Maples, of the Colorado Region, was named Yokohama Advan Scrutineering Volunteer of the Year for his dedication to the specialty, his Region, his Division and SCCA overall.
Ragan, of the Kansas City Region, was named Yokohama Advan Timing and Scoring Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her ability to adapt to new demands on her job, both Regionally and Divisionally.
Foster, of the Colorado Region, was named Yokohama Advan Sound Control Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her dedication, determination and inspiration to all specialties after working all events in her Division in 2005 while battling West Nile Virus.
Spencer, of the Chicago Region, was named Yokohama Advan Steward Volunteer of the Year in recognition of her high-level customer service, participant advocacy and worker empathy.
Selected via random draw, Bradley was also awarded the trip to the 2006 24 Hours of Le Mans. Along with a guest, he will travel to France in June as Yokohama's guest to the premier European sportscar race.
