Meyers wins class and overall by half a minute over Wetzer
Ten competitors and a group of dedicated workers came out on a day that should have been in the midst of summer, not mid fall. The weather for the Nov. 8, 2008, RallyCross was more favorable than it had been all summer, even though the forecast called for scattered showers.
Each driver got seven runs in the morning and four double laps in the afternoon.
- Mike Woodruff Jr/Sr broke a rim on the drive through, and had to withdraw near the end of the day due to other tire issues.
- Rick Leto showed up as the only two-wheel-drive car and got faster as the day progressed.
- Jesse Lace had an electrical issue while on the course and managed to get the car jump started, finishing before receiving a max time. The jump-started car was conveniently located near the start line.
- Jim Perrin had a minor issue at the start line when he realized he was out of gas, but made up for that by taking the cone killer award for the day.
- Nick Babin and Andrea Olson had very comparable times all morning, but when it came to the double laps Nick was a bit faster and had the fastest double lap of all the competitors.
- Nick Meyers took first in class and overall with a total half a minute faster than Mark Wetzer, who was competing in a turbo Audi ProRally car. Mark Wetzer has been to our track before and brought Paul Heine, another returning competitor, and both competed in Mark's ProRally car. After a few runs they both found their groove. Mark was very consistent all day with one minor issue and Paul got faster with every run.
The December 6th event will finish the 2008 series, and will be my last event as RallyCross chairman. I would like to thank everyone that came out to compete, spectate, or just help out the last four years. Unfortunately, like Bruce Perry, my time is now being filled up with a number of other projects but I will still try to make as many events next year as I can. Again thanks to everyone that helped me during my term.
