Date: Sunday, October 8, 2006
Location: Xerox (Building 200 parking lot off Caracus Dr.)
Time: Registration: 8:00 AM; First car off: 10:30 AM
Please pass on the word to anyone you think would be interested. The event is coming up soon and we have a great new site to host it. If you have some tires you are interested in burning up, come out and play. Event details are below.
A Mirrorkhana is a double elimination event. Two cars start on opposite sides
of the same course (but on adjacent straights) at the same time. The car that
runs the course and reaches its own finish line first wins! There will be a handicap
system to "equalize"
between classes competing against each other. Novice, and Ladies classes will
not be used since they already run under the PAX system that the handicaps are
going to be based upon anyway. Drivers competing on "Roadtires" will
get a generic 20 foot head start.
Even if you are not a "hot shoe", consider entering this event. These events are equal parts skill and luck, so even a newbie can do well, and visa-versa a "hot shoe" can be eliminated early. I had a friend of mine entered the Mirrorkhana we held a couple years ago and he made it through about five rounds before he lost the first time, and it was only his second event ever!
You will get 1 FREE cone per run, but if you hit a second cone, it is a DNF. If both cars hit the same number of cones (>1), the first driver back wins, so never give up! The course design will be wide so cones should not be routinely hit.
Two runs are guaranteed. But you may get a LOT more if you continue to win
rounds. You keep racing until you lose two times. Lose once, you go to a second
chance round. Lose a second time, you're out. Eventually, it will result in the
driver that hasn't lost racing
against the driver that lost only once.
The event is planned for Sunday, 10/8 at Xerox.
Entry for the event will be $20 (members or non-members pay the same fee).
Pre-registration will be required, so email me privately, asmith2357 at aol dot
com, with your name, class and car number. The event is organized for 32 or 64
drivers, the trees only work well for
those entry levels, so I need to know who is coming to insure we are best prepared
and organized.
Those that were at any of the past years Mirrorkhanas had a great time both competing and then spectating. The course will be very similar to the previous courses.
There will even be some good prizes for first, second, and third. Stay tuned for details.
Net proceeds will be donated to Cameron Community Ministries. Their focus is to provide food and clothing to those in need in the Lyell Avenue area and they do some very worthwhile work and can use all the help we can offer.
