Quick Start Guide
1. Registration
- Arrive at the site between 8:00 and 9:00 a.m. Find an open parking spot in
the pits with all of the other racing cars.
- Registration is held next to the big white truck with “FLR SCCA”
on the side. Registration closes at 9:30 a.m.
- Sign the waiver, get wristband; show current driver license, pay entry fee
($25 member, $40 non-member).
- Get your car number (any number not taken in your class).
- Take course map and event heat schedule. If it’s your first event of
the season, get a t-shirt.
2. Tech Inspection
- Prep your car: all moveable things out (mats, bottles, clothing, whatever).
Remove hubcaps and spare tire if they aren’t totally secured.
- Put your car number and class on both sides of the car. If you need numbers,
Tech has them.
- Tire pressures should generally be around 40 pounds or more, ask at Tech for
advice.
- Get in line with your car at Tech; hood and trunk open; helmet on seat (if
you have one). Get your Tech sticker.
3. Walk the Course
- Walk the course with your map a couple of times to memorize it.
- Go to the Novice meeting when announced (around 9:30) and do the Novice Walkthrough,
walking the course with an instructor.
- Attend the mandatory drivers meeting; leave whatever else you’re doing
for this. No talking except questions.
- Make note of your run group and what other classes are in your run group. There are four rotating run groups (A-D) with Novices in B and D.
4. Run and Work
- Get to the grid with your run group. Use the designated Novice lane. Get a
loaner helmet when you’re near the front of the grid.
- Make sure that you have an Instructor unless you have been cleared for running
alone.
- When it’s your turn, approach the start line to trigger the red light.
When it’s green, make your run! Afterwards, slow down after the finish line,
return the helmet if you borrowed one.
- Get a work assignment from the Course Marshal, who was introduced at the drivers
meeting.
- Get to your assignment quickly. BE ALERT. Don’t cross the track without
looking twice. If in doubt, wait. If you perceive imminent danger on course, wave
the red flag.
- Scores will be posted periodically. Between runs, you should have time to
rest, spectate, get food or whatever. Drink plenty of fluids and use sunscreen.
5. Cleanup
- Help clean up the course (cones, equipment, etc). You have time to help —
you won’t miss anything.
- Pack up your car. Leave your area clean. Return tire pressures back to normal.
6. After-Event Awards
- Final results announced & trophies presented (roughly, top 30% of each
class gets a trophy)
- If there’s an after event gathering feel free to attend.
- Take it easy on the way home. Leave the racing on the course. We can’t
afford to lose access to a site because someone can’t control themself on
the way home. See you next time!
- A second driver is allowed and encouraged — bring a friend!
